CULTIVATING HAPPINESS. Your happiness might depend on you owning a yacht, trip to the Bahamas or simply, beating everyone at Fortnite. You could do all these, and be super happy…but only for a moment. That “super-happy feeling” won't last a lifetime (our lifespan lasts about 72 years or so). Activities that make us happy last only for a moment. We could bank those as happy memories, but the minute we get back to reality and get stuck in 2 hour traffic at 5 miles per hour, we are back to our very human experience that comes with unexpected misery or "happiness-reducing" incidents.
So what to do? How can we build a different kind of happy? One that does not require a trip to the Bahamas, a climb of Mount Everest or beating everyone at Fortnite. I offer some alternatives. Practices that we can do on a daily basis and are quite easy to incorporate in our busy, hectic lives. Looking after our well-being is the first step to getting happier. Once we do more of the activities that prime us for happiness, we can get our "misery index" down. The goal is to make happiness, intentional. The journey to a happier life, starts now.
